How big is a 45?
Drawn at true relative size and resting on one line, so a 28 next to a 60 looks the way it does on the table. If you own one cutter, it is almost certainly a 45.

45mm is the default for quilting and handles strips, squares and most piecing. 60mm cuts long straight lines and thick stacks faster. 28mm turns tight curves and small pieces, and 18mm is for detail work. If you own one cutter, make it 45mm.
How often should I change a rotary blade?
When it starts skipping threads instead of cutting them, or when you find yourself pressing harder to get through four layers. For most quilters that is every six to eight projects. Cutting paper, batting or laminate dulls a blade far faster than quilting cotton does.
Do rotary blades fit any brand of cutter?
Almost always, if the diameter matches. A 45mm blade fits a 45mm cutter from another maker in nearly every case. The exceptions are a few decorative and specialty blades built on a different hub, and those say so on the product page.
Are multi-packs actually cheaper per blade?
Yes, and we print the price per blade on every listing so you can check rather than take our word for it. On OLFA 45mm blades it runs from 10.95 for a single blade down to 8.50 each in the ten-pack.
